Craig Kinnell

President and Chief Executive Officer

Craig Kinnell joined Oyu Tolgoi in October 2013. He is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Oyu Tolgoi. He is a member of the Board Directors of Oyu Tolgoi LLC and his responsibilities cover all aspects of the Oyu Tolgoi business including safety, strategy, operations and growth initiatives

Craig has 28 years of experience in the mining industry. He joined Rio Tinto as a graduate trainee and has held numerous management and leadership roles. He was Managing Director of Rio Tinto Uranium and Senior Vice President of Rio Tinto Iron and Uranium group. Before joining Oyu Tolgoi, Craig spent three years as a member of Rio Tinto Copper Group’s Executive Committee. In this role, he was responsible for copper commercial sales, marketing and logistics across the world, maximising revenue from Rio Tinto copper. During this period, Craig was instrumental in securing international prices for Oyu Tolgoi through the negotiation of international sales contracts. He also helped to negotiate Oyu Tolgoi’s interim power supply. Craig holds an undergraduate degree in Marketing and Economics and an MBA from Cranfield School of Management.

Ivan Vella

Chief Operating Officer

Ivan Vella was appointed Chief Operating Officer in April 2014. Ivan is responsible for all aspects of Oyu Tolgoi’s operations, including the open pit mine, concentrator, infrastructure, camp services, maintenance, logistics and warehousing.

Previously, Ivan held the role of Vice President, Procurement and Infrastructure Development where he was accountable for managing the programme of work to establish Oyu Tolgoi as an operational business and positioning the business to ramp up of production. Ivan joined Oyu Tolgoi in late 2010 from Rio Tinto where he had worked on a range of large business improvement and transformation projects across different parts of the organisation since 1998. Prior to joining Rio Tinto, Ivan worked in Deloitte Consulting. He commenced studying law and has since completed a Bachelor of Business, Master of Business in Operations Management and an MBA..

Baigalmaa Shurka

General Manager, Regional Development and Social Performance

Baigalmaa Shurka joined Oyu Tolgoi in 2013 as General Manager, Regional Development and Social Performance. Ms. Baigalmaa is responsible for Oyu Tolgoi’s relationship with the communities of the South Gobi, the company’s community and regional development programmes as well as monitoring and compliance for many aspects of Oyu Tolgoi’s Environmental and Social Impact Assessment.

Before joining Oyu Tolgoi, she gained extensive experience across the Mongolian extractive industries, working with the Mongolian Mining Corporation and UHG, where she oversaw the development and implementation of the company’s Environmental and Social Impact Assessment Reports and Operation Management Plans. She also managed the construction of significant infrastructure projects and UHG’s coking coal mine site operations. Ms. Baigalmaa holds a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, a Master of Public Administration from the Mongolian University of Science and Technology, a Diploma of Civil Engineering from Irkutsk Polytechnical Institute and numerous professional and technical certificates.

Dulamsuren Begzjav

Head of Business Analysis and Planning

Dulamsuren joined Oyu Tolgoi in 2012 and was promoted to the Senior Manager of Business Analysis and Planning in February 2013. In this role, Dulamsuren oversees the performance of analyses required for key investments, capital and business improvement projects across Oyu Tolgoi. She is also responsible for ensuring consistent and accurate valuation of the business and investment options, and supports critical initiatives for maximising value.

Dulamsuren has thirteen years of commercial and finance experience. Prior to joining Oyu Tolgoi, she was CFO of Mobicom and Managing Director of Newcom, covering the entire telecommunications portfolio of the Newcom Group for three years. Before this, she worked on Wall Street, New York for five years as an investment banker for BNP Paribas. Dulamsuren holds an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the Institute of Finance and Economics and was the first Mongolian to graduate with an MBA from the Wharton School of University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, US.

Leah Von Hagen

Vice President, Human Resources and Capability Development

Leah Von Hagen is the Vice President of Human Resources and Capability Development at Oyu Tolgoi. Leah is responsible for all aspects of the development of the Oyu Tolgoi workforce to operate the mine at world class standards. Areas of responsibility include organisational design, workforce planning, recruitment, training and education programmes.

Leah joined Oyu Tolgoi in 2012, having previously worked for Rio Tinto since 2001. She worked in human resources and capability development related roles at both Diavik Diamond Mines in northern Canada and Richards Bay Minerals in South Africa. She has a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Education and a Masters in Leadership. She is also a certified Executive Coach.

Mark Slater

General Manager, Health, Safety and Environment

Mark Slater joined Oyu Tolgoi in August 2012. He is General Manager, Health, Safety and Environment and is responsible for the development of Oyu Tolgoi’s health, safety and environment strategy and for oversight of the implementation of HSE within the business.

Mark has 38 years of experience in the mining industry. Starting his career as an apprentice, he has worked in a variety of technical, leadership and specialist roles and first joined the Rio Tinto group in 1986. Before joining Oyu Tolgoi, he was Group Safety Adviser with the Rio Tinto Corporate HSEC Group. In this role he was responsible for leadership of the corporate safety team, development of Rio Tinto’s safety standards, rolling out of the Site safety acceleration programme and for providing safety support to Rio Tinto’s development projects.

Munkhsukh Sukhbaatar

Head of Power Strategy Development

Munkhsukh Sukhbaatar joined Oyu Tolgoi in early 2013 as head of Power Strategy Development. As part of this role, Munkhsukh is responsible for managing the power related infrastructure assets, and setting and implementing strategies to ensure that Oyu Tolgoi has access to secure, reliable and cost efficient power.

Prior to joining Oyu Tolgoi, Munkhsukh served as the CEO of Eznis Airways for three years. Prior to returning to Mongolia, Munkhsukh held various leadership roles in the financial services industry in the US for over 10 years, namely with Citco, a global leading financial services group. He holds a Bachelor of Finance and Business Management from Northeastern University in Boston, and an MBA from the University of California Berkeley’s Haas School of Business.

Nick Archer

Vice President, Communications

Nicholas Archer joined Oyu Tolgoi in May 2014 and is responsible for all of Oyu Tolgoi’s communications including government relations, internal and external communications and reputation management.

Nick has spent more than two decades working in politics, public relations, and crisis management advising companies, institutions and government in London, New York, Pune in India and Amsterdam. He began his career as a speech writer and researcher in the UK Parliament, before leading on public affairs at Edelman in London. After a similar role at Ogilvy Public Relations, he founded The Company Agency - a boutique corporate communications management consultancy in London. Nick then jointly set up and was CEO of Pittacus, a boutique agency focused on identifying reputational risk and threat. Pittacus was acquired by Edelman in 2007 and Nick relocated to Edelman New York as Executive Vice President & Head of Crisis Preparedness. In 2009 Nick joined global wind turbine manufacturer Suzlon, as Vice President and Head of Global Public Relations & Government Affairs.

Steve Duggan

Chief Financial Officer

Steve Duggan joined Oyu Tolgoi in April 2014 as Chief Financial Officer. Steve is responsible for Oyu Tolgoi’s funding and cash management, planning and analysis with oversight of financial reporting and the Oyu Tolgoi shared service functions as well as having responsibility for legal, compliance and internal audit and information systems.

Steve has been with the Rio Tinto group for over 15 years. Prior to joining Oyu Tolgoi, he held finance, commercial and business improvement roles in both manufacturing and corporate environments in New Zealand, Australia, Wales and Canada. Most recently he worked for Rio Tinto Alcan in Montreal as finance director supporting the group’s financial business priorities as well as upgrades of global finance systems and processes. Steve holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree with First Class Honours from the University of Otago

Tserenkhuu Tserevsuren

Head of Corporate Affairs and Company Secretary

Tserenkhuu Tserevsuren joined Oyu Tolgoi in 2002. She leads Corporate Affairs and Company Secretarial team. Her team supports the Board of Directors, the Management and Shareholders by providing high-quality and timely advice, services and support on company secretarial, compliance and corporate good governance matters.

Prior to assuming her current position, she worked as a Senior Manager of Administration and Executive office of the company. During that time she capably managed business units that support day-to-day smooth operation of the business, and the investor relations of the project. She has made valuable contribution to Oyu Tolgoi’s development through her tenure since the early exploration stage of the project, and to attracting foreign investment to Mongolia through the Oyu Tolgoi project. Prior to joining Oyu Tolgoi, she spent twelve years working on international projects and Mongolian organisations. Tserenkhuu holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business economy and management and MBA.
