Craig Kinnell

President and Chief Executive Officer

Craig Kinnell joined Oyu Tolgoi in October 2013. He is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Oyu Tolgoi. He is a member of the Board Directors of Oyu Tolgoi LLC and his responsibilities cover all aspects of the Oyu Tolgoi business including safety, strategy, operations and growth initiatives

Craig has 28 years of experience in the mining industry. He joined Rio Tinto as a graduate trainee and has held numerous management and leadership roles. He was Managing Director of Rio Tinto Uranium and Senior Vice President of Rio Tinto Iron and Uranium group. Before joining Oyu Tolgoi, Craig spent three years as a member of Rio Tinto Copper Group’s Executive Committee. In this role, he was responsible for copper commercial sales, marketing and logistics across the world, maximising revenue from Rio Tinto copper. During this period, Craig was instrumental in securing international prices for Oyu Tolgoi through the negotiation of international sales contracts. He also helped to negotiate Oyu Tolgoi’s interim power supply. Craig holds an undergraduate degree in Marketing and Economics and an MBA from Cranfield School of Management.

Michael Beck

Vice President, Human Resources and Capability Development

Michael Beck is the Vice President of Human Resources and Capability Development at Oyu Tolgoi. In this capacity Michael is responsible for the establishment and development of a predominantly Mongolian workforce to operate the mine at world class standards. Aspects of the function include organisational design, workforce planning, recruitment and training. Special emphasis is placed on developing programmes to prepare Mongolian employees for technical and leadership roles at Oyu Tolgoi.

Prior to joining Oyu Tolgoi, Michael worked for Rio Tinto Iron Ore where he was HR Manager for West Pilbara. He was responsible for providing HR support and leadership to various operating mines and facilities across the West Australian operation. Michael has worked in the mining sector for over 25 years and has held key leadership roles in the development of greenfields projects for large Australian resource companies as well as organisational change programmes for North Limited, BHPB Nickel West and Minara Resources. Michael has been responsible for the establishment of the Human Resource and Training function and large scale recruitment programmes in two previous mining and processing projects. Michael has worked in a broad range of commodities including Iron Ore, Nickel, Magnetite and Copper.

Dulamsuren Begzjav

Head of Business Analysis and Planning

Dulamsuren joined Oyu Tolgoi in 2012 and was promoted to the Senior Manager of Business Analysis and Planning in February 2013. In this role, Dulamsuren oversees the performance of analyses required for key investments, capital and business improvement projects across Oyu Tolgoi. She is also responsible for ensuring consistent and accurate valuation of the business and investment options, and supports critical initiatives for maximising value.

Dulamsuren has thirteen years of commercial and finance experience. Prior to joining Oyu Tolgoi, she was CFO of Mobicom and Managing Director of Newcom, covering the entire telecommunications portfolio of the Newcom Group for three years. Before this, she worked on Wall Street, New York for five years as an investment banker for BNP Paribas. Dulamsuren holds an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the Institute of Finance and Economics and was the first Mongolian to graduate with an MBA from the Wharton School of University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, US.

Justin Carey

Chief Financial Officer

Justin Carey joined Oyu Tolgoi in September 2011. In this role, Justin is responsible for Oyu Tolgoi’s funding and cash management, financial reporting, taxation, planning and analysis, and the Oyu Tolgoi shared services of accounts payable, expense management and payroll.

Joining Rio Tinto in 2006, Justin has held finance and finance systems related roles in Salt Lake City, London, Brisbane and now in Mongolia. Most recently he was working for the Rio Tinto Controllers group responsible for the group financial reporting systems and processes. Prior to joining Rio Tinto, Justin spent 8 years working for Deloitte consulting. He has a bachelor of commerce degree from University of Queensland and over 20 years’ experience working in various industries and countries.

Munkhsukh Sukhbaatar

Head of Power Strategy Development

Munkhsukh Sukhbaatar joined Oyu Tolgoi in early 2013 as head of Power Strategy Development. As part of this role, Munkhsukh is responsible for managing the power related infrastructure assets, and setting and implementing strategies to ensure that Oyu Tolgoi has access to secure, reliable and cost efficient power.

Prior to joining Oyu Tolgoi, Munkhsukh served as the CEO of Eznis Airways for three years. Prior to returning to Mongolia, Munkhsukh held various leadership roles in the financial services industry in the US for over 10 years, namely with Citco, a global leading financial services group. He holds a Bachelor of Finance and Business Management from Northeastern University in Boston, and an MBA from the University of California Berkeley’s Haas School of Business.

Jack Sato

Chief Operating Officer

Jack Sato was appointed Chief Operating Officer of Oyu Tolgoi in September 2012. In his role as COO, Jack is responsible for the production areas of the facility, including the open pit mine, concentrator and infrastructure. The Health, Safety and Environmental department is also under his leadership.

Jack has been with Rio Tinto group for over 17 years. He first started with the Energy Group, based in Brisbane and Tokyo. From there, he joined the Iron Ore group based in Perth. He initially worked in sales and marketing, before playing a key role in the integration of Robe River Iron Ore Joint Venture with Rio Tinto Iron Ore in Pilbara. He subsequently went on to manage the joint venture. After this, he assumed the role of Chief Operating Officer of the Pilbara Supply Chain, where he managed a huge infrastructure portfolio, including Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s rail and port system, power, township and the Iron Ore Operation Centre in Perth. Jack holds Bachelor of Economics from the Waseda University in Japan.

Tserenkhuu Tserevsuren

Head of Corporate Affairs and Company Secretary

Tserenkhuu Tserevsuren joined Oyu Tolgoi in 2002. She leads Corporate Affairs and Company Secretarial team. Her team supports the Board of Directors, the Management and Shareholders by providing high-quality and timely advice, services and support on company secretarial, compliance and corporate good governance matters.

Prior to assuming her current position, she worked as a Senior Manager of Administration and Executive office of the company. During that time she capably managed business units that support day-to-day smooth operation of the business, and the investor relations of the project. She has made valuable contribution to Oyu Tolgoi’s development through her tenure since the early exploration stage of the project, and to attracting foreign investment to Mongolia through the Oyu Tolgoi project. Prior to joining Oyu Tolgoi, she spent twelve years working on international projects and Mongolian organisations. Tserenkhuu holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business economy and management and MBA.

Munkh-Ochir Tsogoo

General Counsel

Munkh-Ochir Tsogoo became General Counsel of Oyu Tolgoi LLC on 1 June 2013 after serving as Deputy Chief Counsel from September 2012. In his role as General Counsel, Munkh-Ochir oversees all legal matters, including shareholder affairs, corporate governance, litigation and compliance.

Prior to joining Oyu Tolgoi, Munkh-Ochir spent 10 years working as a legal advisor and attorney in the US and Germany. Munkh-Ochir has considerable experience in international commercial transactions, particularly in the banking and capital markets sectors. He previously worked for the Legal Department of the United Nations headquarters in New York as a legal advisor, where he was responsible for advising senior UN officers on international treaties. He holds a law degree from Frankfurt Law School in Germany and a Masters of Laws degree from Georgetown Law Center, US.

Ivan Vella

Vice president, Procurement and Infrastructure Development

Ivan is accountable for managing the programme of work to establish Oyu Tolgoi as an operational business and ensure it is positioned to meet planned ramp up of production in 2012 and 2013. This includes oversight of asset handover and commissioning, preparing the operational and corporate divisions to safely start up and sustain operations. Ivan also has responsibility for several departments including Procurement, IT, Facilities, Security and Camp Management.

Ivan joined Oyu Tolgoi in late 2010 from Rio Tinto where his previous role was General Manager Commercial working in the Copper Product Group. Previously Ivan worked in Rio Tinto since 1998 on a range of large business improvement and transformation projects across different parts of the Rio Tinto organisation. Prior to joining Rio Tinto, Ivan worked in Deloitte Consulting. He commenced studying law and has since completed a Bachelor of Business, Master of Business in Operations Management and an MBA.
