Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – Oyu Tolgoi, Mongolia’s largest copper and gold mining company, announced today that it will be sponsoring the second Chinggis Khan World Cup IJF Qualification Event for the Mongolian Judo Federation in the run up to the London 2012 Olympics. The tournament will be held on July 24 and 25, 2010 under the auspices of His Excellency, Mr.Tsakhia Elbegdorj, the President of Mongolia. The company has supported the event to the tune of 20.000.000 MNT.
Mongolian judo wrestler Mr.Tuvshinbayar Naidan, won the first ever gold medal for Mongolia during the Beijing Olympics in 2008. Judo, boxing, shooting and freestyle wrestling are considered to be the most promising events for Mongolian athletes to win medals during the London Olympics.
Mr. Bukhbat, Secretary-General of Mongolian Judo Federation, said, “Oyu Tolgoi has been committed to supporting athletes from day one. Oyu Tolgoi awarded athletes with an amount equivalent to 1 tonne of copper after the Beijing Olympics. Now it is continuing its support by encouraging young people to be competitive in key sports in Mongolia.”
