Ms Zolbuyankhishig now working to help others in Khanbodg Soum
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (ot.mn) – Two graduates of the Oyu Tolgoi scholarship scheme, Ms Zolbuyankhishig and Mr Tseveenravdan, have spoken about the value of the programme for young Mongolians.
Ms Zolbuyankhishig, 24, studied environmental protection and now works for Oyu Tolgoi in the Community Relations centre in Khanbodg Soum.
Her particular focus is on taking care of the families settled around the new airport construction area. She has just finished the Community Impact Assessment which is being undertaken by Oyu Tolgoi and is currently designing the compensation programme which is being rolled-out to the local herders.
She is also helping to run the scholarship programme for local students so that they also get the opportunity to pursue their chosen careers.
Mr Tseveenravdan, 22, received a scholarship to study Information Technology as part of a relocation programme that gave him the chance to study at the Mongolian National University. He is now looking for opportunities to employ his advanced skills around Khanbodg Soum.
“I think the programme of scholarships is very important for the town and it is good that Oyu Tolgoi is investing for education”, he said.
Cameron McRae, Oyu Tolgoi CEO, said that both of these young graduates were a credit to the scholarship programme, and that many more students were benefiting.
“It is great that both these students are bringing their skills back to Khanbodg and this is the way that the town will really benefit long-term. The scholarship programme is a very proud achievement that is changing lives for the better”, he said.
