The opportunity

We are looking for one (1) Senior Advisor External Affairs in Oyu Tolgoi LLC – External Affairs and Communication department based at Ulaanbaatar.

The primary purpose of this role is to advise and provide services and support on external affairs activities of the functional area in large complex environment in line with the company policies and procedures to achieve the department's objectives and targeted plan.

What the role entails

  • Contributes to the department communications and engagement strategy and planning, providing situational awareness of key issues and stakeholders in the business and regulatory environment;
  • Maintains and strengthen Oyu Tolgoi’s reputation internally and externally through robust and consistent engagements;
  • Develops, maintains, and manage relationships on behalf of Oyu Tolgoi with relevant individuals and industry groups;
  • Monitors the regulatory and legislative environment in Mongolia to identify potential risks likely to impact Oyu Tolgoi’s business interests and develop strategies to manage those identified risks;
  • Coordinates and actively work with other external facing teams to ensure full alignment in managing risks and maintaining external relationships;
  • Contributes to production of specialized internal deliverables, including but not limited to, regular political analysis reports, issues tracking, and stakeholder mapping;
  • Provides advice and guidance to internal clients on business cases when required;
  • Leads forums and gatherings with government officials to exchange ideas and information on business activities and potential legislation that may affect the organisation;
  • Attends internal and external meetings and, as required, represents the Department in various associations and events;
  • Ensures work and activities conform to The Way We Work and other compliance standards.

What you will need for this role

  • University degree in political science, law, public relations, social sciences or other relevant fields;
  • Minimum of 8 years work experience in similar roles in government and/or international organizations;
  • Excellent project management and organization skills;
  • Strong strategist with ability to understand complex issues;
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain constructive working relationship with stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal and written Mongolian and English skills.
